AFS, LLC, a subsidiary of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians, is a leading healthcare revenue cycle services organization based in the Greater Boston area of Massachusetts. Established in 2001, AFS provides revenue cycle management services and solutions across multiple specialties and facilities associated with Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians.
Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Medical Coder- Anesthesia at AFS, LLC. The Medical Coder- Anesthesia will be responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to patient records for anesthesia services. The role involves reviewing medical records, ensuring accuracy in coding, and adhering to all coding guidelines and regulations.
This role performs professional certified coding and provides administrative and project support to the department. Analyzes surgical-medical documentation, provides the individual surgeon/physician with the application of appropriate ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS descriptor codes including the appropriate use of modifiers to ensure compliance for reimbursement.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates coding across various divisions. Analyzes surgical operative and other notes and documents to determine the scope and complexity of the services provided.
2. Utilizes professional coding knowledge, applies ICD10/CPT/HCPCs codes to the services delineated in the operative note.
3. Reviews documentation and codes to ensure appropriate capture of all billable services. Provides ongoing feedback and education to the applicable clinical staff regarding appropriate documentation and coding of services.
4. Acts as the key liaison for the clinical staff as it relates to coding and compliance. Interacts with physicians and other professional staff on documentation issues related to coding data.
5. Conducts coding review for medical policy and coding denials.
6. Remains current with any changes in ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding and remains current with Medicare, federal insurance and third-party billing compliance regulations. Works collaboratively with the Executive Director and coding management to ensure all the division charge tickets are compliant, accurate and updated annually or as new procedures are added to the division.
7. Identifies accurate codes and categories for e-ticket implementation for each division. Maintains accurate and current codes in the system by working collaboratively with IS department. Maintains the department Practice and Procedure manual and updates quarterly with new or modified practices or procedures.
Required Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or GED required.
2. Certificate 1 Certified Professional Coder required, CCS/CPC, CANPC™ preferred.
3. A MINIMUM of 3-5 years anesthesia coding experience required.
4. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.

Requirements
3-5 year of coding experience and medical coding skills
Knowledge of RHIT and Health Information Management
Expert understanding of medical terminology
Proficiency in anesthesia coding practices
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Professional certification in medical coding, CPC/CCS. (CANPC)™ preferred.
