Description

The Coder 1 reviews documentation for accurate and compliant assignment of CPT®, HCPCS and ICD-10-CM codes for professional services in accordance with CPT®, CMS and other state and federal regulations as appropriate.

Requirements

Reviews/Updates ICD-10-CM codes as supported in documentation as appropriate as well as appropriate sequencing according to guidelines.

Reviews/Updates CPT®/HCPCS codes as supported in documentation with consideration of CPT® guidelines, NCCI edits and regulatory guidance.

Basic knowledge of Evaluation and Management, Teaching Physician, Incident To and Split Shared guidelines and Medicare Wellness Visits.

The coder will be responsive to provider questions by performing the necessary research into coding inquiries and follow through with written communication to educate the provider in correct coding and documentation.

Participates in education programs and monthly department meetings.

Maintains 90% or higher coding accuracy.

Maintains department required production.

Other duties as assigned.
