Company Overview

University Physicians Healthcare in partnership with the University of Arizona and University Medical Center cares for patients, educates health care students, trains physicians, and conducts clinical research. University Physicians Healthcare is a non-profit corporation created in 1985 as the medical practice of the physicians of the UA College of Medicine. With 300 physicians (over 90 listed in The Best Doctors in America) and 800 staff, UPI is Arizona’s largest physicians group.

Doctors with University Physicians Healthcare perform bone marrow, heart and kidney transplants, care for the severely injured at the UMC trauma center and its emergency service programs, provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical care in nearly every specialty area including cancer, cardiology, arthritis, orthopaedics, and women’s and children’s services at 20 clinic sites around Tucson. They conduct research at the Arizona Cancer Center, the Steele Memorial Children’s Research Center, the Arizona Arthritis Center, and the Sarver Heart Center, to mention a few. UPH physicians are directly involved in educating 400 medical students and training 450 post-graduate resident physicians annually. Some are authors of important textbooks commonly used in medical schools around the world, others are widely published in research journals and others are actively involved in research funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, National Cancer Institute and private agencies. These physicians are a core resource of the Arizona Health Sciences Center, which employs 7,000 people, educates 2,500 students and residents, and generates $500 million in revenues to support the mission of the University of Arizona and the local economy.
