Company Overview
Brownwood Regional Medical Center, a 196-bed acute care facility, has been providing healthcare to our community and surrounding service area since 1969. In 2007, we became part of Community Health Systems (CHS), one of the nation’s leading operators of general acute care hospitals. CHS affiliates own, operate or lease more than 130 hospitals in 28 states.
Our facility is located in Brownwood, Texas on the northern edge of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Lake Brownwood, with over 90 miles of shoreline, is a 10-minute drive from town and we are home to Howard Payne University and several excellent school systems. Brownwood and the surrounding communities offer a wide variety of outdoor sports and an excellent quality of life!

Company History
On August 20, 1969, Brownwood Community Hospital opened for patient care under the direction of the Brown County Hospital Authority. In 1974, new additions were made to the Lab and Business Office. In 1983, additions to the ER and HIM were completed, as was the addition of two Surgical Suites, an enlarged Radiology Department, and a new CT Scan. The Watson Imaging Center/MRI Suite was completed in 1991, and renovations were made to the Obstetrics and Women’s Services Area. In 1992, the Outpatient and Administrative Offices were built. The James B.N. Walker Cancer Center and a Medical Office Building were added in 1994. Renovations in 2002 included an expanded Emergency Department, centralized medical records, a more modern facility entrance, and better patient privacy for the admissions process.
In 2004 renovations were completed in the Surgery Suites, a state-of the-art ICU was added and new Respiratory Therapy Department. In 2006, the hospital added an off-site Rehab & Fitness Zone. Most recently, The Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center was opened in 2007, and an Express Admissions Unit was added to our hospital services the same year.
