Company Overview
At MMP we believe that excellent patient care is a direct result of physicians joining together to pool their resources and work as a team. We are a free-standing, physician-owned multi-specialty organization that provides a full range of healthcare services to patients in the mid-Michigan area. We have over 80 healthcare providers and employ over 300 staff members.
MMP is governed by our Board of Directors, which consists of 11 MMP Shareholders. Our Executive, Finance, Quality Assurance, and Information Technology Committees meet on a regular basis and make recommendations to the Board for consideration.
MMP’s Executive Administrative team is lead by our Chief Executive Officer with our Chief Financial Officer, Director of Human Resources, and Chief Operations Officer reporting equally and directly to the CEO. Each of our offices have an Office Manager, or for some of our smaller practices, an Office Coordinator. These middle management leaders report directly to the Chief Operations Officer for enhanced communication and continuity of practice operations company-wide.
With a fairly “flat” organizational structure, we find that communication is enhanced, decision-making is less impeded, and overall patient and employee satisfaction is positive.
Company History
On January 1, 1996, Internal Medicine Associates and Ingham Health Associates merged creating a six-physician group - giving it a new name, MMP From the outset, the plan was to create a large multi-specialty physician group composed of some of the area’s most respected physicians. The stimulus for MMP’s formation was the rapid sophistication and competition in the healthcare field coupled with a trend of physicians leaving private practice to work for institutions such as hospitals and insurance companies. MMP strongly believe that the best health care is provided when the physician works only for his or her patients.
Conversely, we believe that production and utilization expectations from employers of physicians can adversely affect the physician-patient relationship and patient care. Mergers with Dr. David Hoisington’s Family Practice, the Lansing Nephrology group, and Hematology and Oncology Services followed the initial merger that created MMP The hope was that this core of well-respected physicians would grow into an even larger group. Large multi-specialty groups enjoy an array of opportunities not available to small practices. Provision of ancillary services, price reductions resulting from volume, contract considerations resulting from size, and the ability to pursue large patient care initiatives are just some of the advantages larger groups enjoy.
